# SceneScript Introduction
Wallpaper Engine features a custom scripting language called SceneScript. SceneScript is based on ECMAScript specification - this makes it very similar to JavaScript. If you have programmed with JavaScript or a similar language before, you should feel right at home. The main difference between SceneScript and JavaScript is that all web-related functionalities are missing and have been replaced by wallpaper-related features.
The SceneScript documentation will not teach you the basics of programming in detail. However, SceneScript is still a great way to get started with programming - learning SceneScript carries over well into other programming languages that you might use outside of Wallpaper Engine. If you are ever unsure how to achieve certain things, try researching the web for JavaScript tutorials, as the core of SceneScript and JavaScript are exactly the same.
Keep in mind that SceneScript is all about the freedom to create unique and custom wallpapers. The tutorials we offer here are just examples to help you get started, the possibilities that SceneScript offers are practically endless.
# What can SceneScript do in Wallpaper Engine?
SceneScript allows you to program specific behavior for individual properties of your wallpaper components. This allows you to create dynamic behavior of your wallpaper, including audio visualizers, interacting with the current time of day, mouse clicks and more. In some cases, it might be easier to use Timeline Animations instead, especially for simple animations / movements of objects that repeat infinitely.
